Add Some 1930′s Style to Your Home

Art Deco was primarily a design call popular in 1920-1930′s, which is a follow up of Art Nouveau. These forms showed their domination in the mass production of fashion, furniture, jewelry, textiles, architecture, commercial print making , and interior decorations.

Decorating with 1930?s Art Deco Furniture

Decorating with 1930?s Art Deco furniture is a great way to intend a fun, beautiful, and decidedly unique look for your home. Modern furnishings look great with Art Deco pieces. . Make a plan for what styles of pieces to acquire and stick to that plan. Also, think about the sizes you are hunting for .Great pieces that actually do not fit nicely into a room will detract from your art deco theme.

By the 1930′s, the kitchen was being transformed from the old fashioned kitchen to the “Streamlined-Modern Kitchen” with time saving features, meliorate methodical uses ?and much improved ventilation. The “all-electric kitchen” was promoted in popular magazines with numerous advertisements showing newly fashioned small and major appliances. Mixers were the homemakers dream now fashioned with numerous attachments that could sift flour, mix dough, grate cheese, squeeze lemons, whip potatoes, shred, and slice and chop vegetables and even sharpen knives.

“Depression Green” was the? in” color utilized on the wooden handles of kitchen utensils, on kitchen cabinets and tables and on kitchen wares. Often accessories were cream and green replacing the white and black look of the previous decades.

Other popular color combinations in the 1930s were Gray and Red or Crimson, Silver and Green, Pearl Pink and Blue, as well as the use of checkered patterns on textiles. Kitchen wares much as canisters and Bread boxes tended to be softly painted with perhaps with a decal.

In 1935 the National Modernization Bureau was established to promote modernization throughout the country. Manufacturers competed for meliorate fashioned appliances and kitchen accessories. Color began appear in the kitchens of the rich and famous. These kitchens were featured in women’s publications. Articles in magazines featured decorating tips on color schemes and how to combine the kitchen into the rest of the home.

Kitchens were no longer individual work stations but gaining as much attention as the rest of the home. Small and large appliances were available in color and Sears and Montgomery Ward featured colorful kitchen wares and “japanned” accessories in a vast range of gadgets, canister sets, range sets, cake savers, bread boxes and waste baskets.

Examples popular sitting room chairs are many over stuffed leather or cloth chairs from the 1930?s are the. Mies Van Der Rhoe Barcelona Chair and the Flat Bar BRNO Cantilever Chair.

Mies Van Der Rhoe Barcelona Chair It is often sold today with a matching stool. It was first fashioned in 1929. Inside it is filled with PU-foam and the outside is covered in fine Italian leather. It is very representative of the simplicity that was during this time period, which marked the beginning of the Great Depression. The Flat Bar BRNO Cantilever Chair (Brno Chair) The comfy chair was a very popular 1930s item. It is a basic sitting chair that can be settled in nearly any room, including living rooms or family rooms..

You can do an authentic salon or parlor by getting a reproduction black 1930?s rotary phone. For technical reasons you probably do not want to buy a real 1930?s Art Deco Furniture phone from the thirties. You can resonally acquire a reproduction of a phone of that period for about fifty dollars.

Art Deco decorating is proof that the Depression Era was not really depressed when it came to style.

Alejandro Escovedo
Event on 2012-05-22 20:00:00

Supporting Acts: Jesse Malin

Alejandro Escovedo

Alejandro Escovedo's REAL ANIMAL, his second Back Porch/Manhattan Records album and 10th overall, forms an autobiography in song that traces his musical journey through a life of loving and playing rock'n'roll. Produced by Tony Visconti, whose legendary work with David Bowie and T. Rex are touchstones for Escovedo, making Visconti the quintessential producer for Escovedo's most definitive album to date. In a career marked by almost unequaled critical acclaim for music that places him "in a genre all his own," (Rolling Stone Magazine), REAL ANIMAL is a paramount work that tells his musical and personal story in a fashion that is revelatory, affecting and utterly effective. The music and the songs – in basically chronological rather than playing order here – speak better and more eloquently for him than anything else. Escovedo was a founding member of the pioneering San Francisco-based punk band The Nuns in the mid-70's. In the early 1980's he moved to New York City, where he joined forces with fellow Bay Area punk scene veterans Chip and Tony Kinman in Rank & File, a band that forged the early 1980s country-punk sound that later became known as alternative country. After Rank & File relocated to Austin, Texas, Escovedo left the band and formed True Believers with his brother Javier. The critically acclaimed group disbanded in the late 1980s. In 1992, Escovedo embarked on a solo career with his debut album Gravity. Subsequent solo albums have included Thirteen Years (1993), With These Hands (1996), More Miles than Money: Live 1994-1996 (1998), Bourbonitis Blues (1999), and A Man Under the Influence (2001). In the late 1990s, he began developing a dramatic work, based on his songs about his father, with the Los Angeles theater company About Productions. The resulting composition, By the Hand of the Father, premiered to critical acclaim in 2000 with Escovedo performing his songs as part of the production. His last album, The Boxing Mirror, released in 2006 was produced by John Cale and traces Escovedo's journey from the brink of death at the hands of Hepatitis C to renewed wellness and artistic creativity. Escovedo's music has been widely lauded by the media, appearing in several high-profile publications including Rolling Stone, Vanity Fair, The New York Times, USA Today, PASTE, HARP and Entertainment Weekly. This Spring, Escovedo will be doing select live performances along with guitarist David Pulkingham. Together, they will pick their way through Escovedo's vast songbook ranging from acoustic ballads to rock crescendos with an ease and a confidence only artists of this caliber could muster.

Duran Duran
Event on 2012-08-21 19:30:00

SUMMER'S HOTTEST TICKET

Duran Duran are hitting the road in support of their new album, All You Need Is Now and will make a stop at DPAC on August 21.

The stats on DURAN DURAN are remarkable: a total of over 80 million records sold, 18 American hit singles, 30 UK top 30 tunes, and a global presence which guarantees them huge concert audiences on five continents. More remarkable still is the way they have achieved this, fusing pop music, art, technology and fashion with a unique sense of style and confidence.

When they first broke in the early 1980s, Duran Duran single-handedly transformed music video from a gimmicky marketing tool into one of the music industry's most valued assets. With exotic locations, beautiful girls and stunning special-effects, Duran Duran took the visual imperatives of the New Romantic movement to another level. Their impact throughout the 1980'sthis period was such that Rolling Stone magazine – adapting the old Beatles' sobriquet – dubbed them 'The Fab Five.'

Despite the occasional pause and some re-grouping in the 1990's, Duran today are an unstoppable force who still command the respect of the finest players in the game. On their last album, 'Red Carpet Massacre', for example (released on Epic Records, November 2007), they collaborated with top producers Timbaland and Nate 'Danja' Hills, as well as long-time Duran fan Justin Timberlake. For their most recentnext offering – their 13th studio album: entitled 'ALL YOU NEED IS NOW' (released March 2011) they have written and recorded with Grammy Award-winning producer Mark Ronson – a marriage that all parties agree has been a match made in heaven.

With their new record in stores, the band are excited to prove to the world that, indeed, All You Need Is Now and their future has never looked brighter. Having outlived most of their contemporaries, they have nothing left to prove and everything to play for. They are uniquely Duran Duran.
